Kwikset locks are well-known in the world of home and commercial security. But how can you know as a business owner or homeowner which style is right for you? Here at Red Key LLC in Buffalo, we’ve installed a range of these types of locks, and we want to help you make the right decision for your security needs and budget!

Let’s take a look at some of the most popular Kwikset locks you can choose from:
Kwikset 660 Deadbolt Lock
One of Kwikset’s best-selling locks is a traditional keyed deadbolt: the Kwikset 660. It uses smartkey security, which allows for efficient and easy re-keying in the case that your keys have been stolen or duplicated. The 660 also features an advanced anti-break-in design and a Grade 3 ANSI/BHMA rating.
In terms of installation, the Kwikset 660 is a breeze, with compatibility with all standard door types. The average homeowner or business owner should be able to install it with nothing more than a screwdriver.
Another unique feature about the Kwikset 660 is that it’s manufactured with Microban Antimicrobial product protection. That means that anyone who walks through your doors will have a lower risk of exposure to bacteria, viruses and other pathogens.
Something to keep in mind is that Kwikset 660 is a Grade 3 deadbolt, which makes it appropriate for most residential settings and internal doors in commercial spaces, such as storage or maintenance room doors. However, if you’re looking for a strong deadbolt, you’ll want to opt for something with a higher grade, such as the Grade 2 Kwikset 816 Series. This will raise the price by roughly double, but the added security may be worth it if you want to install a deadbolt on a door requiring higher security.

Kwikset 92640-001 Contemporary Electronic Keypad Lock
If you’re looking for a lock with a keyless option, the Kwikset 92640-001 is one of the most popular. It features a motorized-driven deadbolt that can be opened and closed with up to 6 unique passcodes. You can also program this electronic lock to open with temporary codes, making it a good choice for short term rentals and visitors.
In the case that you forget the passcodes, the Kwikset 92640-001 comes with a backup key.
For added security, there is an alarm feature in the 92640-001. After 5 erroneous attempts, the alarm will sound and the keypad will be rendered unusable for 45 seconds. You can also customize the lock to automatically lock after 45 seconds. Like the 660, this lock has an ANSI Grade of 3.
As this is an electronic lock, it will require 4 AA batteries, which will require periodic replacement. And, unlike the Kwikset 660, you may find installation for this model slightly more involved.
