No matter what kind of door you’re looking to secure in your home or commercial space, Schlage has a lock that will keep your family, tenants, employees, and assets safe. Here at Red Key LLC, we often recommend Schlage to our clients here in Buffalo NY because of the wide range of security options, from smart locks to simple deadlocks to high security locks for businesses.
In this article, we’re going to take a look at a few different kinds of Schlage locks so that you can decide which one is right for your security needs!
Cylindrical Locks
When it comes to internal doors such as your master bedroom, bathrooms, a private office in a shared workplace, and other areas that need minimal security, a cylindrical lock is a good option. These are locks that can be installed with a lever or knob and use a latch to keep the door securely in place. While you can find Schlage cylindrical locks with a higher grading, these locks generally offer a Grade 2 or 3 rating (or low- to medium-level of security.)
Some of the most popular models of Schlage cylindrical locks include:
- Latitude Lever Bed & Bath Lock. These are simple Grade 2 cylindrical locks that are well-suited for residential bathrooms, master bedrooms, or guest rooms. While they come with an emergency pin key, these locks are operated with a push-button lock on one side of the door.
- Elan Lever Keyed Entry Lock. This is another Grade 2 lock appropriate for many internal residential and commercial uses. It utilizes a keyed cylinder, making it a good option for supply rooms, private offices, and separate living areas for rental spaces.
ND Series Grade 1. If you’re looking for a cylinder lock with an extra level of security, the ND Series is one of your best options! It’s a popular choice for a range of different commercial applications, including classrooms, offices, customer restrooms, storerooms, and more.
Deadbolts
Deadbolt locks are a step up from cylindrical locks in terms of security and strength. And, they tend to be a popular choice for external doors, such as the front entry of your home or office.
Schlage has a range of different mechanical deadbolt models, including:
- Single Cylinder Deadbolt. This is a standard mechanical deadbolt that is perfect for front doors, side doors, stand-alone storage sheds, or other uses. It’s rated Grade 1 to give you maximum security and is opened by a key on one side and a thumbturn on the other. Schlage offers this model in a variety of trims, such as the Standard, Camelot, or Greenwich trim.
Double Cylinder Deadbolt. In contrast to a single cylinder deadbolt, double cylinder locks can be locked by a key on both sides of the door, which makes it more secure. It can be a good lock for doors with a mounted or nearby window, for instance, as it prevents someone from being able to break the window and unlock the deadbolt from the internal thumbturn.

Smart Locks
So far, we’ve focused on mechanical Schlage models, but the truth is, the highest selling locks on the market these days have smart technology. For instance, Schlage’s best selling models for residential and certain commercial settings include:
- Schlage Encode (and Encode Plus). The Schlage Encode series is a Grade 1 deadbolt with a touchscreen and smart home integration most popular with homeowners, second homeowners, rental properties and offices. It is compatible with Alexa and Google systems and uses bluetooth and wifi to give you remote access through your smartphone. And, the Encode can be calibrated to up to 100 unique passcodes—including temporary and time-contingent codes for on-site workers—while also tracking opening and closing activity so that you know who is going in and out of the property.
Schlage Connect. In terms of hardware and design, the Schlage Encode and Schlage Connect series don’t differ greatly. The big difference comes from the connectivity compatibility, with Connect catering more towards use with Z-Wave systems (whereas the Encode offers compatibility over a wider range of smart home hubs.) As such, it is a more affordable option well-suited for homeowners or business owners who already use Z-Wave technology and want seamless use with Amazon Alexa.
Electronic Locks
When it comes to high security commercial settings, a smart lock might not be appropriate in terms of connectivity and control. In these settings, business owners are more likely to opt for something from Schlage’s line of electronic locks, such as:
- NDE Mobile Enabled Wireless Cylindrical Lock. This is a good lock for internal offices, storerooms, or other areas within a commercial space that require additional security. It offers a range of different connectivity options, including smart security or mobile control, or can be integrated into existing hardwired security systems.
XE360 Series Wireless Mortise Lock. Similar to the NDE Series, this Schlage lock is a high security option that is well-suited for a variety of different commercial uses. It offers encrypted smart technology and mobile bluetooth capabilities. And, it’s fire-rated and severe weather resistant for use on fire-rated and external doors. While both electronic locks listed here utilize Grade 1 hardware, the major difference between the NDE Mobile Series and the XE360 Series is that the latter features a mortise lock for extra security and durability.
